Not only does DIFFA’s annual Dining By Design event raise money to support direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk, but as an artist, it is one of my favorite creative opportunities each year. Once again, we partnered with our longtime collaborator Benjamin Moore to create a striking “table” representing the magic of their world of color and paint for the gala dinner and exhibition, but instead of decorating, we painted a three dimensional “canvas” in which the guests could dine within.
The gang and I are really focused on process right now in the studio. Instead of working towards a preconceived look of a finished space, we parked cameras to record a time-lapse of the many days of painting -- fearless, fun, exuberant painting, and we let the process of working -- the faith in the muck, if you will -- determine the outcome. And the camera caught it all.

We hung a plasma screen on the back wall of our dining room to show the continuous portrait of the many iterations of our “room,” and the reality is that we could have just kept on painting forever, finding new and ever-fresh results in the myriad of color combinations. Stopping literally occurred when we had to pack the truck.

I am very proud of my whole team and their ability to blur the line between functional design and art making. You guys keep me inspired. Every day.
