The other day we were walking around the Wynwood section of Miami, and we walked into the Ascaso Gallery, a gallery I was unfamiliar with and didn’t expect anything special from. To my delight, the paintings of Ignacio Iturria (an artist I was also unfamiliar with) jumped off the wall to me. Their seemingly everyday scenes punctuated with tiny moments of surprise and magic really made an impression on me. Upon further examination, Iturria is apparently one of the most important painters from Uruguay, who lived in Spain for quite some time and paints about his childhood memories. He’s not a trendy artist. Just a really GREAT one!
A big thank you to my new friends at Ascaso Gallery who were kind enough to provide me with the below photos. I’m going to go back again and spend more time with the paintings live. If you can, check them out too!
