It’s my pleasure to give the reigns over to Dani Calkins, our Special Projects Coordinator who reports on our company service day. I am sad that I was not able to be there and join in the fun, so I need to live vicariously through this post too!

Dani Calkins: On any given day, you can do, see, and experience an array of different activities in Brooklyn Bridge Park -- from Zumba to book readings; there is something for everyone. With a maintenance crew of only 5 people, the 85-arce park relies heavily on volunteers. Last Wednesday, the DSI Crew stepped out of the office and into the park to help out a community we all love!
We were greeted by the park’s wonderful Volunteer Coordinator, Sarah, who gave us a tour of the Park. Sarah not only highlighted the parks amazing views, but also the numerous environmentally friendly features it offers. For instance, the park’s benches were created by reusing Longleaf pine from cold storage warehouses that were once housed on the piers. The park also has a storm water management system that stores over 100,000 gallons of water for the park’s irrigation needs.
After our very informative tour, we were tasked with installing metal edging along several plant beds to keep unwanted debris away from the plantings. As always, the DSI team was quick to jump into action. Not unlike one of our event installations, everyone assumed their designated roles! We had the Project Management team taking phone calls and checking their emails . . .
The studio team doing the heavy lifting . . .
And the design team working in style. And the best part, we have the pictures to prove it all!
Now in all seriousness, in true DSI fashion we all came together to get the job done. It was a great day, and we are all convinced that the DSI crew is the best volunteer group the park has ever seen!
