Since we produce big events from start to finish, they always include everything from sourcing the venue and creating invitations to imagineering the décor and corralling the right entertainment – even producing short films. As a creative factory, our wheels are always turning, so it was great fun to step outside of an event context to produce a short video for the very talented singer, songwriter and performer Migguel Anggelo to coincide with the release of his new CD Donde Estara Matisse and it’s title track of the same name.
Karen Hsu of the graphics firm Omnivore created the cover art of Migguel Anggelo’s CD with Migguel frolicking on the beach then and now.
Migguel Anggelo grew up in Venezuela and from an early age was addicted to the stage, starring as a child in Pinocchio and later touring South America in major stage productions. He studied ballet for 11 years as well as opera in Cologne, Germany, and his new CD is filled with an eclectic mix of songs that tell stories. They are not typical pop “in love/out of love” ballads. Rather, they are poetic and eccentric in the way that a Joni Mitchell or a Tom Waits song tells a metaphoric tale -- only . . . in Spanish.
The above video was lovingly created by Helen Quinn who I went to The Rhode Island School of Design with and who I have also blogged about in the past. I fell in love with the stop/action animation pieces that Helen had previously done and thought who better to create the fantasy world of walking through a Matisse painting than she?! We shot it all in our studio in Brooklyn.
Let us know what you think of the piece! And share the video with all your buddies.

ps - Just in case your Spanish is a little rusty, here is the song translation in English:
Where Is Matisse ?
Words and Music: Migguel Anggelo
Between the cactus garden of Versailles
Running with his friends Monet and Renoir
Under the releve of the Eiffel Tower widow
Later going to ballet lessons with Mister Degas.
Walking the streets of the Paris catacombs
Sharing a cigarette with his friend Rembrandt
Bringing apples to Cezanne at his home near Notre Dame
Where he is listening to the “happy” Mademoiselle Piaf.
Where is Matisse?
Talking to Gaugin, I think.
Matisse . . .
With Rodin thinking about painting a canvas.
Where is Matisse?
Walking with Goya through the streets of Madrid
Matisse . . .
Sipping coffee in the Prado with Dali.
Many times he goes to the Olympia to listen to Marceau,
Watching him smell a sunflower, given to him by Van Gogh.
He never went for his tequila in the battle of Puebla on Cinco de Mayo
because he was too busy playing the violin with the Angel of Caravaggio.
I wonder what Monk was seeing when he was screaming?
I’m sure it was because he saw the Venus of Botticelli.
Someone stole her Chanel dress and her Louboutins.
I’m 100 percent sure it was Farinelli.
Where is Matisse?
Talking with Gaugin, I think so.
Matisse . . .
With Rodin thinking about painting a canvas.
Where is Matisse?
Flying with Chagall in the skies of Paris.
Matisse . . .
Kissing Emilie at the Champs Elysees.
This article is very good. I like it very much.
Hope to see more of the good article.
Thank you! yzi
