In honor of the Senate legalizing same-sex marriage in New York State, I can’t help but think back to a very special wedding we designed not quite a year ago in Bedford, New York. Chris and Tim were officially married in Massachusetts prior to this celebration because at that time, New York did not recognize same-sex unions. Chris’s dear Aunt Martha Stewart, of course, would not pass up the opportunity to host an exquisite day to celebrate following the official nuptials.
We did not create bouquets for the guys. Rather, the above bouquet was one of the guys’ mom’s, but we did embrace the dreamy gardens of the farm. The elegant stone barn became the backdrop to the ceremony, the great lawn hosted a Sperry canvas tent and picnic blankets, chic rattan furniture by Restoration Hardware, croquet and badminton courts for spontaneous games, and the most gorgeous flowers and fruits that the gardens and markets could provide.
The day was a labor of love for all involved, from Ann David and Nicky Reinhard of David Reinhard Events who planned the effortless day to Darcy Miller and her amazing team at Martha Stewart Weddings, I know that I can speak for the entire gang when I say that we could not be more thrilled to be part of the team.
Chris and Tim, wishing you guys much love and Governor Cuomo and all of the leaders who stood up to bat for equal rights, we tip our hats (and hearts) to you.
