Last week we designed a very chic gala at Cipriani 42nd Street for a truly wonderful organization: New Yorkers for Children. This event is one of the special ones that kicks off the fall entertaining season, and everyone came out with bells on! It’s always important to us to infuse meaning into the décor of a fundraising gala AND for it to be drop dead gorgeous at the same time. This one was a case in point. NYFC aids and supports foster children, helping them reach their goals, go to college, and fulfill their dreams. Here, the Post-it became our muse and conveyor of meaning, and the evening’s theme, “Make It Happen,” was conveyed both with notes from program recipients on the Post-its as well as the Post-its themselves becoming bricks to spell out the theme loud and proud.
Upon entering the space, a grand wall of Post-its was both a glowing, sunny decorative WOW and a creative solution to the standard “step and repeat” walls that are perfunctory for any organization’s press and marketing needs. The chic gowns popped against this wall, and the theme was trumpeted from the start. Post-it very generously printed us custom branded pads and letters from the kids, written on these pads infused this decorative wall with a real voice and heartfelt thanks to all of the guests who are there to help them.
In the Chapel Annex of the space for cocktails, a grand tree made from thousands of Post-it pads became a focal point of the room and an interactive wish tree. Guests added their own thoughts of how they “Make it happen” throughout the night.
The backside of the entry wall faced the dining room, tweaking the message, “How do you make it happen?”
The tables were dressed in gorgeous, custom eyelet fabrics created by Ankasa for this occasion. Ankasa also created special napkins in which an embroidered fabric Post-it was sewn to each. Instead of the standard Cranes place card, Post-it printed us special pads in which the names of the guests were hand-written. Table numbers were (you guessed it!) large Post-it pads, and luscious flowers in yellows and whites added the right degree of elegance throughout. It is these special touches that makes an evening memorable. Anything standard – a place card, a table number, a napkin – by making every element special, you make the event memorable.
Our friends at Post-it and Ankasa were very generous and worked tirelessly, helping us “Make it Happen.” It was a great team. And what does “team” stand for?
